Welcome Back!
Goldstar Skating Club would like to welcome you back to the 2020-2021 season. We are excited to start the season September 12th and appreciate your patience while we have been working hard to set up this year’s registration.
There are a few housekeeping items we need to get out of the way before we send you to the Uplifter site for registration.
First, and most exciting is the new website. While it is still under construction, we appreciate any feedback you may have. Here you will find important documents, COVID information, a handy calendar, volunteer sign up forms and photos of our amazing skaters.
If anyone would like to submit photos, or blog articles, please contact our president, Candace Sander.
Second – if your skater has been skating this summer, you are not new to the changes around the city rinks. COVID-19 protocols are in full force. Each club has mandatory protocols that need to be adhered to at all times. A mandatory parent meeting is set for Thursday September 10th at 7pm. This will be an online zoom meeting reviewing Goldstar protocols and Brentwood facility protocols. This meeting is mandatory, and skaters will not be able to step on the ice if parents/skaters have not attended.
As you register your skater, you may notice a few extra policies pop up, as well as some changes to the existing policies:
1. Volunteer Commitment:
“It takes a village”. In this unprecedented time, Goldstar Skating Club is asking for volunteers to aid with Rink Monitor Duties. As parents will not be permitted to stay in the stands, the Goldstar Skating Club is requiring one volunteer (must be age of majority) for each session at Brentwood Sports Complex. Duties of the Rink Monitor include, but are not limited to:
- Checking skaters in, ensuring they have completed the COVID form online
- Ensuring skaters follow the COVID-19 Protocols and physical distancing recommendations
- Aiding facility staff with locking of entry door after session start
- Aiding Goldstar Skating Club coach with wipe down of music area and board area after session is complete
- Assisting in case of emergency
- Ensuring skaters have left the facility in a timely manner after session is complete
The number of hours/sessions required will be dependent on the number of hours/week each skater is on Brentwood ice.
As these volunteers are a requirement to run our program this year, we are implementing a mandatory $500 commitment fee per family for the 2020-2021 season. Families who do not fulfill their required volunteer commitment by the end of the regular season will have their post-dated cheque deposited.
Volunteers will be scheduled on days their skater skates on Brentwood ice. If there are dates you are unable to attend, please let Candace Sander know as soon as possible. Once the volunteer schedule has been published, it will be up to the volunteer(s) to find replacements.
Goldstar Skating Club appreciates and thanks all of the volunteers that help make our club a success.
2. Fundraising Commitment:
Fundraising is a necessary component of any sport to help offset program costs not covered by registration fees. Each and every dollar raised by our fundraising efforts will directly benefit your skater(s). In order to fulfill your mandatory fundraising commitment, a minimum commitment of $200.00/skater is required for the 2020/21 season. For families with more than one skater participating, the commitment for each additional skater will be $50.00/skater.
Please note that $200.00/skater is only the minimum amount per skater, we welcome any sales/contributions over this amount that will help support the club and possible extracurricular activities for your skater(s).
Fundraising details will be emailed out to all members once the season has started.
3. Photo Policy
We have simplified the policy this year, but the main takeaway is with the creation of our new website and our Instagram page, we would like to showcase the talents of our skaters. By agreeing to the photo policy, you agree to have photos of your skater published to our social media and websites. If you have any questions or concerns about this, please feel free to contact me.
4. Pick-Up Policy
We will not be allowing pick up ice to be registered on the same day. All pick up ice is to be registered and paid for through the Uplifter site by 6pm the day prior to the ice time. Skaters will not be allowed on their non-regular ice time without proof of pick up payment.
You may also notice upon registering, our season has been extended to the end of June, with the addition of Rocky Ridge ice. We are excited to be able to bring you and your skater more time to fall in love with skating.
With that – we give you the Uplifter link:
If you have registered with Goldstar Skating Club previously, please do not create a new login.
Heather will be sending out a “Welcome back from the Coach” email shortly after registration. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact myself (Candace Sander) or Heather.
We can’t wait to make 2020-2021 the best year yet (all while physical distancing)!
