CANSKATE
Skate Canada's CanSkate program is geared to beginners age 5 and over. Our CanSkate coaches are NCCP trained professional coaches, assisted by trained program assistants.

CanSkate Program Objectives:
-
Provide skaters with a safe, welcoming and inclusive experience in the sport of skating
-
Develop skating and motor skills through natural learning phases
-
Use skill progression and repetition throughout the stages to introduce physical literacy and establish quality basic skating skills
-
Capitalize on key windows of trainability (sensitive periods in development when the body is more responsive to specific training) through various program components and curricula
-
Foster personal achievements and satisfaction through skill acquisition, rewards and recognition
-
Evoke an interest in life–long participation in skating

What to Expect:
Action, movement and fun! Lessons are given in a group format with a coach-to-student ratio of a maximum 1:10. Skaters progress at their own rate and coaches make sessions active using teaching aids, upbeat music and a wide variety of activities that create a motivational environment and promote learning. Badges, ribbons and other incentives are used to benchmark skaters’ progress and reward effort and participation.

All skaters must wear a CSA Hockey Helmet. See video below for proper equipment requirements.

There are 6 levels of CanSkate badges, with 3 fundamentals areas of focus:
