This year, 2020, has been one for the books... but even with the change of pace that Covid has brought, Heather still brings a smile to her student's faces when they step on the ice. This year Heather was awarded with the 25 year service award from Skate Canada. Read her bio below and comment with your amazing stories of Heather.
"I started my coaching career at the Cochrane Skating Club in Cochrane, AB. From there I moved to and am presently working in several clubs in the Calgary region including the Crowfoot Skating Club, GoldStar Skating Club as well as the Calgary Winter Club. As a coach, there have been so many proud moments with my skaters. One of the most humbling was when I was gifted the opportunity to work with a skater who was hearing impaired. Helping her to achieve Skate Canada tests as well as top three placements in several competitions was an amazing experience which pushed me to grow not only as a coach but also an individual. In addition to my skating and coaching background, I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Women's Studies from the University of Calgary and a Graphic Design Certificate from the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT). I have also worked in several public and private recreational facilities in Calgary and am very proud of the contributions I made to furthering recreational and educational opportunities for their patrons. I hold a life-long passion for the sport of figure skating, especially it's combination of athleticism and artistry, which I strive to share with every one of the skaters I have had the opportunity to work with. Most importantly, I am committed that my involvement in sport and recreation help instill an active for life attitude within all the individuals I interact with."
