STARSKATE

STARSkate consists of four areas of skills and are divided into three levels

  • Skills are a combination of fundamental skating movements skated solo and executed on a pattern. Skills focus on edge quality, control, power and speed.

  • Ice Dance teaches timing, musicality, rhythm interpretation and hones basic skating skills such as edges, flow, control and unison.

  • Freeskate consists of the execution of jumps, spins, footwork (think Kurt Browning!), field movements and stroking. These elements can be performed in isolation or in sequence to music.

  • Artistic focuses on the development of program components, musical movement and creativity. Aspects such as turns, edges, field moves and creative spins. (Skaters must have completed STAR 4 Skills prior to entering STAR 5 Artistic).

Skaters have the opportunity to take assessments for each discipline through a nationally standardized assessment system. If a skater chooses, they may also participate in Skate Canada competitions throughout the skating season.

Skaters engage in private or semi-private lessons with a certified Skate Canada coach. Note: Lesson fees are an additional cost to program fees and are paid directly to the skater's coach.

Skaters are also encouraged to register for our Off-Ice Program to further enhance their skills.
