OFF-ICE

Off-ice conditioning has become an extremely important role in a figure skater’s basic training program. Now, more than ever, figure skaters are performing harder and more technical jumps, spins, and elements on-ice. Given these demands, the need for off-ice strength, flexibility and conditioning training has increased. Regardless of age or skill level, skaters must be strong and well conditioned in order to perform these basic skating techniques. Gradually strengthening bones, joints, and muscular support as well as increasing flexibility will not only benefit your skater on-ice but may also help reduce the chance of serious or long-term injury.

The following items will be required for each skater to participate in the off-ice program: PROPER running shoes (ballet flats, toms, high-tops, sandals or decorative runners are not appropriate forms of running shoes), shorts and a t-shirt or athletic wear, skipping rope, yoga matt, and water bottle.

Jump, Spin & Flexibility Class

Participants will receive instruction in jumping and spinning technique, air positions, take-off and landing positions as well as spin variations. Basic posture will also be emphasized to help build flexibility, muscle endurance, gracefulness and agility.
